The Classroom

At Little Lights Preschool, each classroom is purposefully designed in the spirit of the Reggio Emilia approach, where the environment is considered the “third teacher.” Spaces are warm, inviting, and thoughtfully arranged to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and support children’s natural drive to explore and understand their world.

Children are encouraged to express their thinking and ideas through many “languages,” including drawing and writing, storytelling, movement, music, building, imaginative play, sensory investigation, and hands-on art experiences. These varied opportunities celebrate each child as a capable learner with unique perspectives and interests.

Our classrooms include intentionally curated learning centers—such as blocks, art, dramatic play, literacy, manipulatives, sensory activities, and scientific discovery. These open-ended areas promote independence and collaboration, inviting children to follow their interests, make choices, and construct their understanding through play and exploration.

Educators act as researchers and guides, observing children’s interactions and documenting their learning processes. Classroom spaces are continually refined in response to children’s developing skills and emerging interests, ensuring that every environment remains engaging, meaningful, and reflective of the children who learn within it.
